Artist Statement Image

Many of my initial ideas are based on the colours, patterns and textures of the natural world around me. I enjoy painting landscapes where the emphasis is placed on certain atmospheric conditions such as mist, fog or sunlight and shadows. These latest paintings represent the seasonal changes in organic life forms as they travel along streams and riverbanks here in the midlands.  I paint mainly in acrylics but like combining other media as the work progresses in order to maintain some spontaneity.

I studied Fine art at Derby University and continue to be inspired by new technologies.

I am a member of the following arts groups/organizations
Professional associate of the SAA where I am listed in their 2010 Directory as an art tutor. www.saa.co.uk/art/marysmith.  Associate member of Banksmill studios, Derby www.banksmill.org.uk,  member of the melbourne artists group and will be participating in the Melbourne festival 2010  this year www.Melbournefestival.co.uk ,member of the green door Print room,  www.greendoor-printmaking.co.uk  member of the Derby Sketching Club www.derbysketchingclub.co.uk. member of the Ashby Guild of Artists www.ashby-guild-of-artists.co.uk  and a friend of the RBSA.
